Wood from Europe’s managed forests is produced sustainably and its annual growth exceeds the amount of wood harvested from them. Their area has increased by 9% in the last 30 years to 227 million hectares, more than a third of Europe’s area. This, together with the capacity of trees to absorb CO2 and reduce the carbon footprint during their life and during their transformation process, makes it the only sustainable material that can also be demonstrated through numerous forest certification systems, the most widely used being the PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).
